My hope still flickers

A prayer for compassion and our shared humanity, this song is an invitation to hold on to hope, resist separation, and remember what unites us. Because even in the darkest night… Hope still flickers.

I'm down on my knees
Begging you please
Please
It’s so easy
It’s so easy to divide
But how do you stay in your heart
When the world is falling apart
Please
It’s not easy
It’s not easy to keep faith
When these storms rage,
dimming the light
Testing my resolve
in the heat of night
Please
Broken bones
Shattered dreams
Silent cries
Distant screams
Broken bones
On empty streets
Fallen homes
Where mothers weep
But my hope still flickers
In the dead of the night
They tried to divide us
They tried to keep us blind
But my hope still flickers
'Cause I'm remembering how to pray
Why did the gods abandon us?
Please help me find the way
"I just want to extend this prayer and these good words and wishes for everyone involved in this yet another cycle of horrific human suffering. Regardless of religion, borders, opinions or ideas, I find it difficult to witness how humanity once again falls into these divisions and this need to take sides, to be right, to be on the right side of things, rather than truly embracing and feeling into this horrible suffering that knows no borders. A mother crying for her baby is the ultimate pain. Obviously, we feel the pain of those close to us, but I refuse, even in this time, to follow the impulse of hatred, revenge and separation. In this very dark hour, I choose to keep the light close and to keep a deep empathy for human beings rather than for nations, symbols, flags or all sorts of man-made divisions."
My hope still flickers
